During the last three weeks of class, each member of the class will give
a 10-15 minute presentation and distribute a one page handout. The presentation
will count for two ten-point quiz/response grades, with the talk and handout
each being worth a quiz grade.
The Talk
- General background on your periodical and your subject (i.e. education,
factory reform etc.)
- Plot summary of fiction pieces/ summary of arguments of non-fiction
pieces
- Walk us through your argument about your periodical (i.e. what your
paper is going to be about)
- Discuss how your argument relates to existing scholarship and why
what you're arguing is important (i.e. what contribution does it make
to the conversation)
The Handout:
- Basic information about the periodical (i.e. dates of publication,
place of publication, editors etc.)
- What was in the particular issue you read
- The argument you made about your topic
- Any other interesting tidbits or facts
